Second time here. Had an iced coffee and though I believe they have good roasts here I couldn't really tell since my French Roast iced coffee had many flavors. Not sure if they stored it in a container that was used for a different flavor last week or just drips from the other iced coffee within the poorly designed and dirty iced coffee cooler. Not overly impressed, I would only stop if you don't go by another coffee shop first. To be fair, baked items are excellent.

Amazing coffee! I am extremely impressed at the quality of the roasting process at this place. The beans are roasted on site and are phenomenal! I only drink black coffee, and my experiences here are only smooth, flavorful, rich, buttery coffees. Every time I travel, I try to find the best coffee shop in the area, and this one is easily one of my favorite coffee places I've ever visited. On a side note, the breakfast sandwiches are also amazing. The bacon egg and cheese croissant melts in your mouth!

Nice cafe - awesome iced coffee selection (really quick to get), Scones are delish, good meeting space where you can work too.

The iced coffee is amazing but the last time I was there the coffee was more on the lukewarm side and melted all the ice they gave me and resulted in a watery mess. The time before was exceptional though so I will be back hoping for iced coffee that's... well, you know. Iced.

After all of the reviews, I was really excited to try this place. But, it didn't live up to the hype. The food is overpriced for what you get. However, it is very tasty. The coffee selection and freshness is good. But again, pricey for what it is. The actual building and interior look like they could use a good cleaning. There are better places to go.

Fresh roasted, "serve yourself" iced coffee that is the best I've tasted! Great bagel sandwiches and my fav? Veggie Wrap! Yummy!!!

Adorable, rustic-looking shop off the beaten path in Rhode Island! A friend and I stopped here recently on our way to Newport and were happy to find coffee (for her) and cookies (for me -- snickerdoodle!) to revive us after the long drive. We also availed ourselves of the restrooms on this visit, which were large and well-kept. Employees are friendly. Overall, a great place to stop and grab some refreshment during your trip to the Ocean State!

Okay, so coffee is sort of coffee these days. So if you are on the road and passing buy, you can feel good that you will get a great cup a Joe. But, just make sure while you are at the counter, you peek into the 'scone' selection. Big glass box, can't miss it. Then ask for the mixed berry or berry scone. Then, ask them to warm it up and add some butter. Then... sit down at a table and enjoy. Yes, you can send me a compliment for the recommendation. Do not eat this on the road. It is something to be savored, appreciated and enjoyed. Hay!!! I am trying to help you out here. If you take it to go, you will just be distracted and not fully appreciate what is about to happen to your taste buds. So relax, enjoy. Service was fantastic and price is very reasonable.

I went here a ton in college and when I moved to NYC after college I would always have to stop here after getting off the train on Kingston. They roast their own beans, on site! It takes the "coffee house smell" to the next level, and it's amazing. They're a little pricey, but so worth it. Defiantly worth the detour off the highway!

I only stopped in here because I passed it and I wanted a cup of coffee. I walked in the door and the guy behind the counter immediately said hello. Then they made me a great cup of coffee. I bought a 1/2 lb of coffee that "odorized" my car for the rest of the day. The sandwiches looked really good so I bought the Rte. 138 (I think thats what it was called). The food was good, the coffee was great, everyone was nice. Pretty low key place. Prices seemed about right. Overall, I really liked it. Its nice to see just a small, good business staffed with good people. I dont think you can ask for too much more.

I'm a regular. The food and coffee are excellent. That is the only reason this place continues to exist. Over the years I've been tempted to write a review about TLC because it is a unique experience, and the owner (Ken?) is eccentric. However, Ken has absolutely no business sense. That is perhaps why I have not written a review up to this point; I like the food, and Ken seems nice enough, so I didn't feel the need to say negative things about him or his business. If writing an honest review, it is practically unavoidable. Today my desire to be "nice" changed based on my experience (4/10/15). The way he treated his employees today was atrocious. It was busy, maybe 7 people in line and 15 people in the restaurant. This is not "busy" for a normal restaurant, but it is for a restaurant that is poorly managed and has incredibly inefficient (or a complete lack of) SOP's. Ken was not able to handle this "rush." He was speaking very rudely to his two employees, and stormed out of the building saying, "I can't handle this, I gotta get out of here." All of the customers looked at each other in disbelief. Was that a grown man? Less than a minute later he comes back and starts "helping" people while at the same time trying to justify his childish behavior. Three women that were legitimately scared. Someone brought a sandwich back because it didn't have bacon on it. He lost it again. "She's screwing up every sandwich today." He walks aggressively over to his employee, and tells her how she screwed up. She shows him the paper that HE wrote for that order. He yells "What are we gonna argue?! She wants bacon, I'm sure she ordered it with bacon!" Yes Ken, I'm sure she did. But your management skills and the system you have in place at your business is a failure. Even if the employee made a mistake, you have no POS system for your business! You have papers with chicken scratch that you throw at whoever is making the sandwiches! Of course things are going to go wrong! While "helping" customers, he is saying out loud, to nobody in particular, "I look like the @-h0le, I look like the @-h0le," as two children of less than 7 watch the freak show. Yes Ken, you do. Right now that is exactly what you are being. A childish @-h0le. The terrified women are trying to avoid him and talk directly to the employees to have their orders straightened out. Meanwhile his employees, to whom he is speaking so rudely, are trying to console him like the baby he is being. Nobody is angry except you Ken, we are all just concerned about you and your employees' well-being. Ken, I see a psychiatrist myself and it helps. Your behavior is not that of a mentally healthy individual. This is not meant to be an insult. You need help. Your inability to multitask and stay focused, coupled with you short fuse and anxiety is indicative of one, or maybe several issues. You would likely be a much happier person if you looked into SSRI's or an Adderall/Xanax regimen. Now I'll review my thoughts beyond the repulsive experience today. Everybody that is a regular knows you cannot go there if you are in a hurry. You have to plan enough time, because it will always take at least 10 minutes for a sandwich and coffee. That is perfectly fine. Not every restaurant is "fast food." They use real eggs, crack them and cook them right there. They make their own bagels. They are delicious. This could be streamlined if he would invest in kitchen equipment. The grill for cooking eggs literally looks like something from a college dorm room. If you have 4 orders for sandwiches ahead of your own, expect to be waiting a while since there's not enough room to cook more than 2-3 sandwiches at a time. It's strange, because Ken is investing time and money into the business. He recently "remodeled." It's terrible. The décor does not make any sense. The "decorations" are enormous: antique fridges (that are for sale), some strange antique barrel, a long board, a brand new keggerator (for sale!). How many keggerators have you sold, Ken? There is no flow, its just clutter. Meanwhile the tables are falling apart and are completely filthy. New tables may have been a better investment. There is a new couch to replace an old one, but there is no room for it. It's awkwardly placed behind some tables and serves no practical use if people are sitting at those tables. The best use of his money would be to get rid of all of it and start over. Hire an interior designer or literally just ask anybody else to do it! Put the keggerator, antique fridges, etc somewhere else, sell them on craigslist, and focus on your restaurant. The food is delicious. C'mon, focus man! Anyway, I would have kept all of this to myself, because THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS! But it is not ok to treat people the way you did today. I do feel bad, because it's clear that you need help, and you're probably too old to accept that at this point. But if you ever talked to me or my family that way.... Well. I'll leave that alone.

This review is for the TLC that is in the URI emporium not the one that is off of Kingstown Rd. It's a good coffee shop and a presents a great alternative to Dunken Donuts or Bagelz which are located in the URI emporium. Its almost never crowded like how those two are, service is fast and easy. There's much more comfortable seating than in Dunken Donuts or Bagelz too. Not cramped at all. I havent tried their hot coffee or specialty drinks yet, but they have so many different flavors of iced coffee which is awesome. When you walk in, there is a wall that is filled with all the different flavors they have. Ive never counted how many flavors they have but its definitely over 20. You can also mix the iced coffee's too which is awesome. I saw someone do snickerdoodle and sea salt caramel mix. Ive had a few different kinds, but I like their "Banana Walnut" iced coffee the best. My only complaint is that I've noticed that some flavors aren't nearly as flavorful as others (their pumpkin spice wasnt very flavorful when I tried it), some days the flavor isnt noticeable at all, and some days the coffee is bursting with flavor! So its been hit or miss, but mostly hit. But on very positive note, the coffee is around the same price as Dunken Donuts and tastes better. Also they have a TLC punch card system. So when you buy 9 coffees, the 10th is free and everytime you buy one they punch one of the holes on the card. Their breakfast food is also way better than Dunken or Bagelz. Ive had their quiches which are good, filling, and relatively cheap. Also their breakfast sandwiches are great. I really like their bacon egg cheese and ham egg and cheese. A good variety of bagels to choose from too. Unlike Dunken the eggs are real and it always comes out hot so the cheese is gooey and awesome. One last thing that sets them apart from the rest is that they have a piano inside and some days there is live music. Sometimes its just people messing around, but the other day they actually had a music student come in and was playing some jazz music and singing. It was a really nice change of pace than just listening to my headphones while I studied. I don't know if they just started having someone come in or if there is a specific day/time someone comes in, but they need to keep doing it. If I get any info on a set schedule I'll edit my post.

New location in URI emporium, fantastic!! There are so many great things to say about this local gem. First of all, service is always with a smile. Staff has always been nothing short of superb. The coffee flavors are abundant and not just your average cup of joe. My personal favorite would be the snickerdoodle, love a nice warm hint of cinammon. They have excellent breakfast sandwiches. My go to has been the bacon egg and cheese on a bagel. Real eggs fried while you wait with warm gooey cheese. Get it on a bagel, they have quite the assortment of flavors. Delicious! I love to dip mine in ketchup, adds just the right touch! They have quite the assortment of baked goods on hand. Cookies that look too good to be true. I have not dared to try one as I would probably buy them all! The snickerdoodle does look amazing though as does the Reese's peanut butter. They are also the size of my face. Super casual atmosphere. great place if you are attending class to come grab a snack, cup of joe and relax or hit the books.

I use to stop in here for a quick, convenient cup of coffee. It's a cute cozy little place, not too far from URI, and it has a rare assortment of Gluten free goodies if you get there early enough. Pros: They roast their own coffee, so the coffee is pretty good. Cons: . .Well, last time I went the girl was eating behind the counter while making my coffee. This makes me believe that the owner has not educated them on food safety. They also seem to frown upon using a Debit/credit card. **NEW** I decided to give this place another go, and after my last couple of visits ( Several months after my last), I've decided to make the executive decision to add more to my review. Honestly, I think the owner reads yelp comments, because I've noticed quite a bit of improvement. The staff is generally very friendly, and they don't glare at you now if you offer your debit/credit card over to them. I'm pleased to say they have the most amazing scones there. I tried the Blueberry Strawberry one, and it had fresh fruit smothering the top of it, Yum! They also have Matcha powder ( Green tea), which they can make lattes out of which is a plus for me! I'll certainly visit TLC more often now.

The coffee here is great! If you're driving down 138 in the morning, you can even smell them roasting the beans. They are definitely all about their coffee here, and I don't think would ever serve a bad cup. It is just a really nice cozy spot in a semi-rural area. The chicken sandwiches are great, and the staff is very helpful and courteous. You can get some really great smoothies here too.

I have been stopping by here off and on since they opened a few years ago. It is local small business specializing house roasted coffee, breakfast sandwiches and lunch. For me the frustrating part about this place is if they spent a little more time on the atmosphere it could be so much better. The coffee is good. Certainly better than what you can get around there but not what I would call a premier coffee roaster. I had a breakfast sandwich there was and it was good. Fresh made with real eggs. I had a wrap for lunch there a couple of times as well. That was also good. Nice fresh ingredients and they do try to offer some healthy food options as well as organic an whole grain foods. As far as the service goes, I would have to say, "they try". The staff is usually very friendly, cheerful and kind, and i really appreciate that. The problem is there seems to be no real system to how things are done so it can seem very disorganized so the experience is a little different every time, which can be frustrating. But they are so nice it makes up for it. My biggest criticism would be the place just seems to be a mess most of the time, both inside and out. As if they really don't spend anytime on the way the place looks. Chaotic would be the word I would use. Overall though, if you are passing buy and need a quick cup of coffee or a sandwich, give it a try.

I went here because my girlfriend works at South County Choppers in the same plaza. She has been raving about this place for the last month and bringing home various odds and ends, typically popcorn. Anyway, we were on our way to a party in 'gansett and stopped in here. I am very particular about my coffee. I would rather have a full bodied coffee like Starbucks than Dunkin Donuts to give you an example of what I enjoy. I was expecting a Dunkin Donuts like experience because that's what most coffee shops seem to think everyone likes. I was wrong. I ordered a French Vanilla among several different flavors available. The coffee was very robust and definitely held its own in terms of vanilla flavor. Most coffee shops tend to use syrups to flavor the coffee which I find adds a plastic-artificial taste. The coffee I had did not have that taste and I was able to savor the richness for about an hour. Overall I was very impressed with the service from the girl at the counter and the quality of the product they serve. They also sell kettle popcorn and various baked goods. The girl at the counter was eating, but that isn't an issue for me. She did wash her hands and everything is protected in a case of some sort. There are many beans available to take home that are freshly roasted and have clever names like "Bruce Wayne". I hope that this place survives on such a small business flooded neighborhood.

I ate at taylors and tried the chicken salad sandwich. The sandwich was pretty good and I received it within three minutes after placing my order. I didn't receive the same service some of the other reviews mentioned. I would recommend this place and would have no problem going back again. Next time I plan on trying the different kinds of coffee.

I went to a Christmas art show in Kingstown, RI and overheard one of the workers saying she had bought the sandwiches she had at Taylor's. On my way home I spotted this great little spot on 138, so I stopped. Had the best sandwich! It had a name either "Garlic Goodness or Garlic Heaven". There was roasted chicken and the best cooked spinach I have ever had, garlicky and cheesy on a warmed torpedo roll spread with garlic mayo. Good size dining room, maybe 8 or 10 tables, newspapers to read and they grind the free trade coffee, had a delicous ice coffee. Lunch was about $8. Lots of choices of different combinations on the sandwich menu, including the Rhode Island favorite Grinda!! I also purchased a pound of the fresh ground coffee, the special sale of the day from Guatamala, only $5.95. Everyone should add this to their South County list, you can call ahead and order your sandwich and head to the beach. Friendly staff behind the counter and the owner/manager made a point of speaking to everyone. Ample parking.

The coffee is magnificent. John Wayne is my favourite. I usually get a Cappuccino in one hand and a John Wayne in the other. Which comes to five dollars and a little change. Which is less than one drink at Coffee CHAINS. Another perk- is the variety of 'milk' offered. Dairy avoiders rejoice! They also blend organic smoothies with vega protein options, which I am eager to address. I have not tried the food, though there are bagles, muffin tops, gluten-free muffins, as well as lunch sandwiches, micro-green salads and I am surely neglecting a few, such as decadent looking peanut butter cookies. Ken is always good for a laugh. Oftentimes he may be found making kettle corn outside enjoying the sunshine. There are melodic acoustic acts come weekend.

This is one of my favorite places for coffee. The owner has been roasting coffee in the store for a couple years now - I think it's been open for three years - and he's become a real expert. Many times I've gone in and asked about a particular bean or two, and he's given me a sample of coffee to taste, and I mean like a half a cup, not just a little shot. They have an amazing selection of coffees from around the world, and they are all roasted fresh right there as demand warrants. I can't really vouch for the food, as I've never eaten there, but for coffee this is a standout. And that doesn't mean just for our little town - this would be a standout for coffee lovers in most big cities too.

Stopped here the other day and had a great turkey sandwich - very fresh with good bread. I didn't have a coffee, but the scone I had for dessert was sinfully delicious!

I had a bizarre day here. I attempted to buy a single bag of tea. They never gave me the cup nor the hot water, they just rang it up. Well I was sort of in a hurry to catch a ride, and just felt plain awkward about asking for the rest of me order, so I left. I really wish I had asked for a refund, but I made the tea later back at the hotel. It was just a strange situation to find myself in.

Coffee. Not food. Coffee. Not food. Coffee. Not Food. That is the mantra for TLC. The owner/operator is really into coffee. He is not into food. I buy a couple of pounds of Central American blends from Ken each week. Ken's coffee is the best in South Kingstown, RI. I have tried most of the Central American beans and have been happy. The John Wayne blend is good as is Ken's blend. Service is hit-or-miss. The place does not have it together in the well-run-restaurant sort of a way, but this adds to its quirkiness as a country store. The coffee is very good. To the reviewer who commented on the Starbucks bags on the counter: I think the owner puts them there to demonstrate that Starbucks coffee is not freshly ground.

  • Antares S.

The bane of a certain corporate coffee company. Taylor's Landing is all about the java, and it is here where they are firing on all cylinders. Sometimes when you pull into the lot, you can smell the beans being roasted by the owner on the side of the building. If you like your coffee strong, then try their John Wayne blend. Robust and tasty in one cup. The only downside to the place, and I take away one star because of it, is the rather untidiness of the interior. I love the fact they focus on the quality of their coffee, but the chaotic appearance can be offputting.

What a deal - if you're an idiot (like this author can be) and you go to the Amtrak station in Kingstown sans sustenance, you can call Taylor's Landing and they'll deliver to the train station! We had an Italian sub and a ham/cheese, plus two strawberry smoothies. It was fairly expensive at $25 for that stuff, but hey - it was delivered in 15 minutes and saved me from the not-so-healthy train food. The Italian sub especially was stuffed with meat and was a hefty sandwich, the ham/cheese was just a sandwich on white bread. Overall pretty good, if you're in the area give it a shot (but go to the actual store on 138).

Wow, the best darn coffee in Appalachia, I mean Rhode Island. Driving up to TLC you might think you were in Appalachia as the coffee house looks a bit of shambles with temporary tailors on the lot and a dirt parking area. But exit your car and you will see that a mad genius of roasting resides here using the trailers as his lab to create magnificent coffee roasts. Inside the rustic charm continues. TLC also offers great local breads and pastries from Allie's Donuts and 7 Stars bakery. Make the stop at TLC you won't be disappointed.
